Thanks, Royo! Meeting a good teacher or a supervisor is a life changing experience. I’ve met a few and one of them is the author of this book:-) I hope you will enjoy reading the book. “Keep, keep on reading”, as you always put it;-)

I think we can find a few reasons to this question in the literature such as books, texts and journal articles. An effective teaching need a good book and a good teacher, and we are lucky to have all now. Everyone who enroled this course will agree with me, i bet.

For this they always try to read a lot. But due to the shortage of such easy books as discussed in the post the students enthusiasm for learning goes down and they start considering reading a boring activity.

It is rightly said by Kimie Takahashi that we need such books which catch interest of the students and compel them to read a lot.

Thanks for your comment, Kimie

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to get hold of the book yet! The bookstore I’d contacted to provide me with the book hasn’t called me yet!

Yes, it’s not everybody’s job to follow such in an academic book!

Speaking of my PhD, to keep it short, for some reason, I’ll have to do the Postgraduate Certificate, which will start on August 1st. After completing this course, I’m off to do my PhD!
I’ll be waiting for your other comments on Ingrid’s new book!

Thanks, Dariush! I agree with your comment wholeheartedly. That’s what she says in the acknowledgment: “I learned from you all [her past and current students and co-workers from all different linguistic backgrounds] and tried to always keep you in mind as the intended audience of this book”. It’s a nice thing to say, but it is very hard to follow through in an academic book. But she actually stuck to her promise;-) I will keep you posted here. How’s your PhD going by the way? Keep us posted here, too, if you can;-)

Thank you for informing us of the content of the book and of your students’ feedback.

Anyway, I think the most important reason for the success of the book, regardless of the author’s thorough,
extensive and comprehensive knowledge of the field, is prof. Piller’s, to the best of my knowledge, enough exposure to nonnative speakers of English, hence having familiarized herself with their needs. Another reason could be the author has had enough teaching experience; as a result, she had been well aware of the readers’ understanding of the terms and concepts. This familiarity with the readers’ needs has led the author to become successful in getting her message across.
