Fascinating post. I have been trying to grapple with more or less similar situation in pakistani context where the nationlistic langauge policy seems to be implemented in public schools. These schools are attended by majority of pakistanis where the medium of instruction is Urdu and English is introduced quite late whereas private sector schools follow their English only policy hence the linguistic capital is within the access of financial elite of the country or the upper middle class. I simple wonder what is wrong with multilingual language-in-education policy for country which are hugely multilingual. But then the problem is people with low fianancial capacity will also have the chance to become the resource for thriving global institutions which they would not like it.

Though mother tongue education is advocated by academics and politicians, some parents probably undertand such rhetorics
