It’s important to say that English is a very important language and, over the years, it has been a means for students to become international. However, the meaning of the word “international” encompasses many nations, in other words, It’s not about one nation or language but, about a world that learn how to communicate with each other without erasing their cultures.
It’s kind of contradictory that a student that choose to major in English would complain about how everyone thinks he represents the main path to internationalization, but now, having these discussions about that languages and their powers I feel my mind is more open.
Also, the change starts with our action and we really have to take this more seriously and understand that we can be international learning languages other than english, and also, valuing our own culture wich is beautiful, and the world have to know more about.

I have seen people even from non-English speaking countries try to exchange information in English on various social media channels.

Although I do not disagree with the premise that it is important to make sure that universities are considered more ‘international’ to due a range of factors not just the English language. I can’t help but think that there is a reason policy makers and students a like view Englishisation as Internationalisation due to the opportunities this kind of ‘internationalisation’ offers. Perhaps it is not such a misconception but a desire to be a certain kind of ‘international’? What do you think?
