This initiative serves as a means of educating the public about the old Philippine writing system, which may contribute to its revitalization in modern contexts. This development brings to mind one of my colleagues in our department, a filmmaker whose work I deeply admire. He founded Pelikula Ilokana, which he uses as a platform to showcase films that highlight Ilocano culture, traditions, and the Ilocano language. His films have been showcased in international screenings and have earned various awards. However, beyond the accolades, I believe that his greatest contribution lies in his ability to share Ilocano heritage with both local and global audiences. Furthermore, he advocates for the preservation and promotion of Baybayin, incorporating it subtly into his films and related merchandise. Such efforts, when pursued collectively, can significantly enhance awareness and appreciation for Philippine languages. I hope that, in the future, our university in Ilocos Norte will also undertake similar initiatives, such as the introduction of Baybayin signage, and expand learning opportunities that promote multilingualism.
