I congratulate you on completing your doctoral. I have two music traditions going on in my home: Scottish folk ( my son, singer-song writer, much too impressed) and North Indian Classical ( my daughter learning North Indian Classical and other boy is a tabla player). You can imagine!

Only the aalap (preamble) of my daugther song takes more time than my son’s three songs probably because of the singing traditions/histories in which these genre are embedded. Lingusitically speaking, I find linguistic purism at its zenith in both of these traditions. Arent they a bit rigid traditions?
