As a partner visa applicant and linguist I feel very strongly about this topic. It’s not only the ideology behind that terrifies me (why is multilingualism a synonym for ‘lack of social cohesion’?!), but also the thought of adding more work, more stress, and more money to a visa application process that is already extremely difficult.
