However, this intersection can be different in different contexts. For example, in Pakistan, women are more likely than men to be accepted as applicants for lower-level positions in multinationals, but not in the public sector, since foreign businesses are less patriarchal. Women are also more likely than men to be called in for interviews for desk-based jobs, rather than field jobs due to the former’s perceived qualities as organized and regular, but only in emerging businesses. Interestingly, men are more likely than women to be promoted at the workplace due to glass ceilings, negotiation, and old boys network, but women can win if they have strong family/social ties. It also gets complicated when women are pregnant or single, since both are seen as a cause of lower performance. Thus, social network and marital status etc can also be intersectional barriers for promotion. These are only my observations, but there might be research-based evidence on this also.

I have not faced the cultural discrimination till now , but have faced the gender discrimination. I was not given a job in a multinational company just because i am female, whereas my name was o top of the merit list and also passed their entrance test. Still did not got the job as i was not considered mentally and physically capable of handling the stress issues in the company. This was quite shocking for me that even the well educated and practical thinking people have this stereotyped perception about women.

I did not recognise the woman at the right amongst the thee images was the different one from others when I first saw it. Female and nationality revealed by the name and the picture can be seen as two of the critical factors affecting the result of job-seeking activities. To overcome this discrimination from the bottom, women need to be “better” in the workplace as stated above. Unfortunately for female job seekers and workers, it would still be a while at the cost of countless efforts by ‘peioneering women’.
