Celeste Rodriguez Louro

Celeste Rodriguez Louro is Associate Professor, Chair of Linguistics, Director of the Language Lab, and an Australian Research Council Fellow in Linguistics at The University of Western Australia. In recognition of her academic excellence, she has been awarded a prestigious Visiting Fellowship at All Souls College, University of Oxford where she will spend Hilary term in early 2026. Celeste is an active member of UWA’s GenAI Think Tank and serves as an area consultant to the Oxford English Dictionary. Her collaborative work with the Heart Foundation focuses on decolonising medical media for First Nations communities, and she has recently partnered with Google on a project advancing inclusive voice-operated Artificial Intelligence technology for First Nations people in Australia. Her award-winning research explores themes such as standard language ideologies, language contact, and decolonisation. Her publications have appeared in top international journals, and over the past decade, she has secured more than $4 million in research funding.
