As the son of an expat family, George has been on the move all his life. He came to Japan as a young child in the early 1990s when his father, a British diplomat, was posted to Tokyo. During the family’s nine-year stay, George attended the
Seisen Kindergarten and
St. Mary’s International School, where his childhood memories begin. From Japan, the family moved to Egypt, Australia and England, but he never fully gained a sense of belonging in any place. He and his family moved back to Canberra, Australia sometime ago, where George is currently completing a diploma in remedial massage at the
Canberra Institute of Technology. In this interview, George tells us that although Japan stayed with him spiritually throughout all these moves, he resurrected his interest in Japan only recently, and began reading manga and anime and socialising with Japanese – “you never realise how special something is until you leave it. That’s how I feel about Japan”.
