Hiroshi Takei

Hiroshi Takei had never flown overseas until he visited his friend in Sydney in the mid 1990s. Six months later he received a fax from his friend, in which he told him about a hairdressing business opportunity in Northern Sydney. In response, Hiroshi, at the age of 46, closed his hair dressing saloon of 20 years in Tokyo and started again in Sydney. Starting a business with little knowledge of Australia and English was a huge challenge, as was winning the hearts and minds of local customers. 15 years on, he has no regrets and enjoys Sydney’s lifestyle and its difference to life in Japan. Hiroshi tells us “there is no such thing as ‘home’ in my mind. I’m not attached to land per se.”

今回のJapanese on the Moveに登場する竹井博吏さんはシドニーで美容院を経営されている。９０年代にシドニーの友人を尋ねて来るまで、一度も飛行機に乗ったことがなかった。その６ヵ月後届いた一枚のファックスは現在のお店が売りに出ているという内容だった。その当時４６歳の竹井さんは２０年東京で経営していたお店を閉め、シドニーでまた一から人生をスタートする決意をする。オーストラリアの知識もあまりなく、英語もおぼつかない状態で新しいビジネスに挑戦するという事は大変な事が沢山あったと話してくれた。しかしそれから１５年後の今、何一つ後悔する事は無い。シドニーでの生活にも満足している。その一方、土地に対してのこだわりは無いとも話してくれた　－「僕の中ではあまりホームっていうのがないみたいなんだよね。あまり土地にこだわってないから」。
