Kenichi Okura

As an English teacher in Kyoto, Kenichi Okura always wanted to go overseas to improve his English. In 2010 he finally took action and enrolled in a one-year master’s program in TESOL at the University of Technology, Sydney. For Kenichi, studying in a classroom where students actively ask questions and share ideas has been an eye-opening experience. While he devotes most of his time to studying, he keeps in touch with his wife in Kyoto on a daily basis. Nearly one year after his arrival, he learned that learning a language is a life-time commitment, and he will go home with a renewed sense of commitment to improving both his English and teaching skills.

今回のJapanese on the Moveに登場していただくのは小蔵けんいちさん。英語教師として働いていた間、海外で英語を磨きたいと考えていた。その夢が叶い、2010年にシドニー工科大学の一年間のTESOLマスターコースに入学。勉強を始めてみると、地元学生たちの活発な授業中の発言にとても驚いたという。勉強に追われる忙しい毎日を送りながらも、京都で帰りを待つ奥様とのコミュニケーションも欠かさない。このインタビューが行われたのは卒業間近の2011年8月。一年オーストラリアで過ごし、語学は一生掛けて上達されていかなければいけない、という事を気付いたとお話してくれた。
