In the 1980s Setsuko Yanagisawa came to Australia to see the world outside Japan and to improve her English. She worked for a local tour company for ten years throughout the Australia boom among Japanese tourists before she left for Denmark with her ex-husband. With cooking her real passion, she spent a year in France learning French cuisine. When her marriage broke down, she returned to Japan and learned flower design, and against her parents’ wishes moved back to Australia on her own to start a new life. While working for a flower company in the CBD in the early days of her second stay, she met Ben, an
Italian-Australian who became her future husband. Together they opened
Yuga Floral Design Café in fashionable
Glebe, Sydney. “P stands for passion for Italians but for patience for Japanese”, says Setsuko in this interview video.
